Jumping Worm Concerns?
Sylva has developed and implemented best-in-class management practices to combat the propagation and spread of undesirable Jumping Worms.
Sylva mulches are manufactured from virgin, first-use wood fibers procured from Northern Minnesota.
Many of Sylva's competitors use recycled wood such as construction debris, pallets, residential yard waste, and tree trimmings which may contain contaminants, disease, jumping worms/cocoons, invasive species, or nails and are just not the best material to introduce into your landscape.

Sylva only uses stem wood, which means there are no leaves or branches in your mulch when you buy mulch manufactured by Sylva. Additionally, Sylva's first-use wood fiber is procured from Northern Minnesota where there is no known presence of jumping worms as shown in EDD's map.

Sylva uses the highest quality colorants available.
Sylva's colorants have been third party tested to be safe for people, pets, and plants.
Sylva monitors the temperature of its mulch piles.
Jumping worms die each fall. However the jumping worm cocoons survive the cold winter but are killed in just three days at temperatures at or above 104 ˚ Fahrenheit. Sylva’s mulch manufacturing process includes the storage of mulch in large piles, up to 30 feet high. These large piles heat naturally to temperatures in excess of 130˚ Fahrenheit. As a result, any jumping worm cocoons that may be in the mulch will be killed along with many other pathogens.
To make sure that Sylva's piles are reaching and maintaining heat temperatures to kill off jumping worms and cocoons, Sylva regularly checks and documents that its piles are meeting this criteria.
